St. George Street Reconstruction
Project Description
In 2024, the County of Elgin in partnership with the Municipality of Central Elgin is planning to reconstruct St. George Street (County Road 26) to an urban road standard from Wellington Road (County Road 25) to the CN railway crossing. The reconstruction project will include the replacement of aging storm water infrastructure, road base reconstruction complete with sidewalk and curb installation, and asphalt placement.
Construction Detour
A tailored construction detour for each phase will be in place throughout the duration of the project. During construction, sections of the roads will need to be closed to vehicular through traffic to complete the work safely, and in a timely manner, however, pedestrian access will be provided to the extent possible.
- Paving is planned for the week of June 16, depending on the weather.
- Residents will receive a notice (via door hanger) the day before paving is confirmed.
- On paving day, driveways will be temporarily inaccessible for about 4 hours. If you need to leave during that time, please park on a nearby side street.
- Remove temporary asphalt curbs at catchbasins and raise catchbasins to finished grade
- Finish sidewalk installation including tactile plates
- Raise maintenance holes to finished grade
- Street sweep and prepare roadway for tack coat
- Complete surface asphalt and permanent pavement markings
