The County of Elgin is developing a Transportation Master Plan (TMP). The TMP is the first comprehensive master planning exercise for the County’s transportation network and will be coordinated with the County’s ongoing Official Plan update. This Plan will be designed to look at "the big picture", identifying challenges, alternatives, steps and actions to take the County of Elgin from where we are today, to the multi-modal transportation network and landscape we envision for our future.

The Plan will span 30 years and will focus on the development of an integrated vehicular transportation network, the enhancement of active transportation amenities (cycling), and will explore transit options for Elgin's communities.

Please note: Due to several regional developments and the unknown impacts on the County road network, the Transportation Master Plan (TMP) has currently been put on hold. This Project will be re-instated in 2024. Please stay tuned for more details.

What would encourage you to use a public passenger transportation service?

If a public passenger transportation service were to be provided in Elgin County that could take you where you need to go (i.e. a bus route or on-demand service), what would be the most important factors to encourage you to use the service?

I have always felt safe driving in roundabouts. Big fan!

Love roundabouts. They reduce high speed collisions and fatalities, improve traffic flow and reduce wait times at lights. Look left, go right, signal your intention. Easy. More roundabouts please.

No one knows how to use them properly...do you stop, do you yield, how do you change lanes, get off....need education. When they suddenly appear on a hwy can be dangerous...hwy 3 and 19

Niki over 2 years ago

I really don't like them. Why don't you fix the manhole covers that are sunk in the road?

Carol Robinson over 2 years ago

I think they are safe and efficient as long as they are not two lanes. I get honked at in the high speed two lane roundabout s in Kitchener. Then i dont know why so i stop and that really gets the other drivers honking and hand gesturing. I do not have a clue what i am doing wrong

Tracey Davies over 2 years ago

More education on How to use them is needed - they need to be bigger for trucks

Roundabout at hwy 19 and 401 terrible. Roundabouts need better visibility. Not a place for art. Lights at night and large lanes for trucks and trailers

The roundabout at 401 and hwy 19 is terrible. Very confusing when using for the first time or not often. Terrible for young drivers and seniors. Most residential roundabouts are ok. Could be lit up at night and spend less money on decorations. Don't block visibility.

Love roundabouts. Much better than 4 way stops or lights

MDC over 2 years ago

I would rather stop sign or 4 way stop than roundabout. People don’t know how to use them.

Please signal your turn, unless going straight, will help in flow of round about

Lived in KW region for 20-ish years after being from Bayham originally - KW has 'all kinds' of these and the biggest issue is driver education. Once drivers are aware of the "correct" rules, the roundabouts are a great way to keep traffic moving, and pedestrians are perfectly safe - again, as long as people know the rules!

John Nezezon over 2 years ago

I much prefer roundabouts over stop signs or lights. They are quick and efficient when people know the road rules. I think more public awareness campaigns need to be made on how to use them as they are uncommon in Ontario still.

Love roundabouts, easy to maintain, safer to use, and keeps vehicles moving!

I also do not like that are obstacles that are put in the centre of the round abouts, it prevents a clear view of other traffic. It is no place for artwork or shrubbery it can be quite high in some spots, which distracts and obstructs the line of sight.

Connie Ferguson over 2 years ago

I have seen alot of dangerous driving when other people have been using round abouts, alot of people do not know how to use them. I think that if they are going to be used more in this area there needs to be more education for drivers needs to be mandatory. I honestly think simple is better. They also take up alot more space then a set of lights.

Connie Ferguson over 2 years ago

Roundabouts are dangerous ! No two are built the same!
The one on # 3 at Tilsonburg is particularity bad! It’s almost unsafe to get a bus or large truck through!
I avoid all roundabouts even if I have to go out of my way to do it! They just aren’t safe!
Whom ever decided that to install them instead of traffic lights is nuts!

Doris over 2 years ago

I have always found traffic circles or roundabouts to be a very easy and efficient way to keep traffic moving.

Merle Masse over 2 years ago

As a driver who has been recently diagnosed with a concussion, these roundabouts are tricky. They make me dizzy.

Intersection at AVON Road and PUTNAM Road definetely needs a Flashing Red Light OR a 4 Way Stop Sign.
Too many speeding Trucks and Cars. Speed should br reduced to 40Kph. School Bus stops here.
Definetely need a walikng - Cycling Foot Patn on ths South side of Avon Road ...With street Lightsof course.
