Elgin County Transportation Master Plan

I live in Lynhurst Village near Highway #3 and Wellington in Central Elgin (St Thomas)

I see the surveyors and planners all around the location of the new highway 3 expansion (doubling)


We have a real issue at times exiting from the Lynhurst Village subdivision and turning onto Wellington... with the new road - and a possible overpass/or roundabout... there will be no delay in traffic on Wellington which gives us breaks to turn. I hope this is taken into consideration.

At least a morning and evening service back and forth from St. Thomas to Port Stanley and from St. Thomas to London.

Efficient transportation to large employers needs to be established quickly. If transportation options to the Amazon warehouse and the newly announce VW battery factory are established quickly, we may be able to get large numbers of people using that instead of individual transportation.

I would not use it, town is too small and this would be wasteful for taxpayers. Better to use the money to repair roads for drivers and keep working to connect bike paths for when the weather is nice enough to bicycle around town.

While the news of the new VW battery plant is great, the aligned closure of Edgeware Rd, a very commonly used cycling route to get in and out of St Thomas is incredibly disappointing. The lack of safe roads for cyclists in a county that likes to talk about it being great for cycling is disheartening. I encourage you, and everyone involved in a transportation plan to work with the City, and perhaps engage with some cyclists for you to ride around.
Surely in what is going to be a multi million infrastructure project, a few extra thousand can be added in to provide a safe alternative for cyclists. How do you propose folks on the north/east end of the city ride out? Down Fairview? Down Highbury and Centennial? I look forward to a response.

Fanshawe College St Thomas students would be more inclined to use public transportation if there was a wider variety of route options. Accommodations are difficult to find and often students will find an affordable room to rent but are unable because they do not have reliable transportation to campus. As student enrolment grows, particularly with international students, a reliable transportation system is essential.

Reliability, frequency and low price

We need a service that runs from Aylmer to St. Thomas and then another that connects to London.
Many of us drive this route several times a day. Many of us transport our children to school this route as we are unable to get them on a bus. I estimate my home travels these routes in excess of 700km a week.

Four times a day from Port Stanley & Bruce via ST Thomas with stops in the East & West ends of London. Also feasible routing from other parts of the County of Elgin.

What would encourage me to take transit between and in the largest three towns of Elgin-Oxford, St. Thomas, Aylmer and Tillsonburg (in Oxford) is high frequency, even if it's a smaller bus since that would be cheaper to run. People need to be able to depend on a bus every 10-15 minutes at their stop.

Take a look at the Netherlands rural bus connections. They even connect to small towns to bring them to another small town or a train station. Rural places in the Netherlands expect a bus every 30-40 minutes. It may be a lot at first but it's a chicken and egg argument. Someone has to make the first step to improve public transit and/or by committing to protected bike lanes.

Frequency, cost, reliability, pickup and drop off locations would need to be considered. It would be great to link smaller communities to St. Thomas and London to go to health appointments, travel, visiting, etc.

If it could connect to public transportation from West Lorne to London or St Thomas or the airport.

We need committed bus service from Port Stanley thru St. Thomas to London at regular times for work and school opportunities.

Reliable, regular service ie twice a day to St.Thomas from Port Stanley.OK if it was only twice a week to start.Same as a bus to London to White Oaks Mall,twice a week, so you could then connect to London's bus system

Sheltered destinations in Port aside from the busiest spots with passenger car pick up spot (Thinking Francis Street, Sycamore St and Water tower in Port) That way mom can visit Port more often and I can pick her up locally without stalling traffic to do so.

There are many elderly in Port Stanley that do not drive because of age or lack the use of cars. We need daily trips to St. Thomas (once a day at least) and a once a week trip to London. Even moving around Port Stanley can be a challenge if walking is limited.

It would be an excellent idea to provide a transit system that supported elderly or people with disabilities living in smaller communities of their choice. Not to mention saving the environment from excess car use. We would definitely use it.

We would love this! Our son is unable to drive and relies on others to take him to work and other activities. It would need to be reliable, affordable, and connect with transit stops in London.
