Elgin County Economic Development and Tourism Strategy
Elgin County is developing a new five-year Economic Development and Tourism Strategy. This project will take place over the next six to eight months and will help guide how we support local businesses, attract new investment, and grow tourism across the region.
Elgin County is home to about 52,000 people and includes seven local municipalities: Aylmer, Bayham, Central Elgin, Southwold, Dutton Dunwich, and West Elgin. Our economy is built on strong agriculture and manufacturing sectors, with growing opportunities in tourism and advanced manufacturing. As Elgin County grows and changes, this strategy will help us plan for the future while promoting the rural character and agricultural heritage that define our communities.
What Is an Economic Development and Tourism Strategy?
An Economic Development and Tourism Strategy is a plan that sets clear goals and actions for how a municipality can support job growth, business development, and tourism. It helps focus resources and guide decision-making to make sure the local economy continues to grow in a way that benefits everyone.
The strategy will look at key areas such as:
Business retention and expansion: Helping local businesses succeed and grow
Entrepreneurship: Supporting new business ideas and startups
Business attraction: Bringing new investment and businesses to the County
Workforce development: Making sure our workforce is ready for future jobs
Tourism: Strengthening Elgin County as a destination and promoting what makes us unique
Have Your Say
We will be reaching out to local businesses, organizations, and residents through interviews, focus groups, and surveys. We want to better understand what’s working, where there are challenges, and how we can work together to build a stronger economy and tourism sector. Your feedback will help shape the vision, goals, and actions in this plan.
Stay tuned for opportunities to get involved and share your voice!
