Elgin County Transportation Master Plan

The County of Elgin is developing a Transportation Master Plan (TMP). The TMP is the first comprehensive master planning exercise for the County’s transportation network and will be coordinated with the County’s ongoing Official Plan update. This Plan will be designed to look at "the big picture", identifying challenges, alternatives, steps and actions to take the County of Elgin from where we are today, to the multi-modal transportation network and landscape we envision for our future.

The Plan will span 30 years and will focus on the development of an integrated vehicular transportation network, the enhancement of active transportation amenities (cycling), and will explore transit options for Elgin's communities.

Please note: Due to several regional developments and the unknown impacts on the County road network, the Transportation Master Plan (TMP) has currently been put on hold. This Project will be re-instated in 2024. Please stay tuned for more details.

The County of Elgin, with the assistance of its consultant, Arcadis Professional Services Inc., has resumed the development of the County's first-ever Transportation Master Plan (TMP). The project was put on hold for a period of time to collect information on recently announced regional developments, ensuring that the plan reflects the most up-to-date information to best serve the County’s residents, businesses, and visitors. The Transportation Master Plan Phase One: Needs and Opportunities report has now been completed and was presented to Council for their information on March 8, 2022. This comprehensive report provides a detailed overview of the existing multi-modal transportation system and incorporates all available County and stakeholder policies with respect to transportation planning. The report showcases the existing County road network and explores how it is currently used by different travel modes. The report also incorporates population growth trends to uncover potential capacity constraints with future commuting patterns throughout the network.
