Elgin County Council has adopted these four values as part of their current strategic plan: Respect, Integrity, Collaboration, and Service Focus. As an entity under the auspices of Elgin County Council, Elgin County Library also reflects these larger values. Within each value, there are library and public service considerations which we have pulled out into bullet points listed below under each value for your feedback.
Our Values:
Elgin County Library is guided by four core values—Respect, Integrity, Collaboration, and Service Focus. These principles shape how we work, support our collective success, and ensure strong alignment across our organization.
Respect
We treat all individuals, including library users and staff, with dignity and respect.
We provide diverse, inclusive, equitable and accessible spaces, collections and programming.
We value and respect intellectual freedom.
We maintain the confidentiality and privacy of our customers and staff.
Integrity
We act honestly and ethically in all situations.
We are transparent in decision-making and communication.
We follow through on commitments and promises.
We are fiscally responsible and accountable for how we operate.
Collaboration
We facilitate effective governance through Elgin County Council and in tandem with our local municipal partners.
We work cooperatively with all departments of the County of Elgin.
We support access to our cultural heritage through programming with galleries, museums, archives and cultural organizations.
We empower our staff to connect to our community and cultivate mutually beneficial partnerships.
Service Focus
We support lifelong learning through free access to services and technology.
We are courteous and responsive to the needs and feedback of our residents.
We continuously seek feedback to improve service quality.
We provide hours of operation and staffing levels to serve our communities.
