The County of Elgin will be completing a slope stabilization and roadway improvement project on Glen Erie Line (County Road 42) in the Municipality of Bayham, from Plank Road to the county limit at County Road 55.
This work will address erosion along the roadway, replace aging infrastructure, and improve roadside safety to help ensure the long-term stability of the road and surrounding creek areas.
Tentative Construction Start: June 2026 Anticipated Completion: October 2026
Tree removals will take place between March 9 and March 20, 2026 to prepare the area for construction and must be completed before March 31 to avoid the bird nesting season.
Project Scope
Work along Glen Erie Line will include:
Culvert replacements and rehabilitations
Widening of over-steepened roadway banks
Installation of new roadside safety features, including guardrail
Bank and creek restoration work
Replacement and repaving of driveway culverts where required
These improvements will help stabilize the roadway corridor and improve safety for residents and motorists.
Transportation Impacts
During construction, Glen Erie Line will be closed to through traffic and open to local traffic only.
At times, the replacement of cross culverts (culverts that pass under Glen Erie Line) will require full closures of the roadway. Residents will be notified in advance by the contractor and project consultant when these closures are required.
Please follow all posted signage, traffic control personnel, and directions from the contractor when accessing your property.
A contingency plan will be in place to ensure emergency services access at all times.
Up-to-date road closure information and detours will be available on Municipal 511: https://www.municipal511.ca/
